The anticipation surrounding the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious photo of a desert monolith. The secret is finally answered. Larian Studios is working on a brand-new Divinity game.
Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer featuring striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the literal unleashing of hell.
A Different Direction
Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian warned that a follow-up to its venerated RPGs is not being worked on now.
That said, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This phrasing implies that the team could be crafting a real-time experience as opposed to another turn-based title. For now, this is speculation, as only a teaser video is available.
The Legacy of Divinity
The Divinity series is highly rated and it's fair to claim it kicked off the contemporary revival of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for intricate stories, branching plots, and deep class systems—traits that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its setting is traditional swords and sorcery, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency granted to the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is full of unique possibilities you can achieve by choosing a distinct build with a unique decision path.
The series is also famously flexible, enabling players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Virtually all objectives can be completed in a variety of manners, often in unexpected fashion.
- You might find an answer because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by moving environmental hazards in a clever way.
More to Come
It is these creative systems that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games ever made. Now, fans can get ready for another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
